Frequently Asked Questions
Agar is the best replacement for gelatin in almost all panna cotta recipes. Remember that the ratio of each of these ingredients is not the same- you cannot replace 2 tablespoon of gelatin for 2 tablespoon of agar.
Your honey panna cotta can be refrigerated and stored for up to 4 days. If you’re setting it in individual dessert glasses, you can cover the glasses with some cling wrap to keep the panna cotta fresh.
While traditional panna cotta recipes don’t call for the use of Greek yogurt as an ingredient, this recipe does. The Greek yogurt adds a nice bit of extra creaminess to the dessert and also balances out the sweetness of the honey with some tanginess it provides.
Plus, Greek yogurt is super healthy too. If you don’t have it or just don’t want to use it, you could totally skip it too.
This flavorful honey panna cotta tastes great on its own, but you can also take a few extra minutes to make that easy spun sugar topping on it if you want to. If the spun sugar topping isn’t what you had in mind, you can try topping the panna cotta with some slivered almonds or chopped walnuts, or any other dried fruits or nuts of your choice.
Fresh fruits (think berries and apricots) can also make for an excellent topping for the panna cotta, especially if you’re trying to make it a healthy dessert. If you have the time, you can also make a fruit sauce of your choice, allow it to cool down before you pour it over the panna cotta.
If you can’t think of anything else, just sprinkle some white chocolate shavings on the top!
Tips to Make the Honey Panna Cotta
The panna cotta is easy to make no doubt, but keeping these little tips and tricks in mind will help you nail the recipe.
- The panna cotta is super silky and creamy dessert, which is why, bringing in a bit of texture can really take it up a notch. You can serve the panna cotta with some homemade toffee crumbs or garnish it with anything else that’s crunchy and adds a bit of texture.
- You can pour and set the panna cotta mixtures into individual serving glasses if you want to keep it easy and straightforward, but if you don’t mind a bit of extra effort, pour the mixtures into greased ramekins and allow it to set. Then, get it out into a small serving plate and top it with your choice of toppings and dig in.
- You can also just make it lot less of an effort by just setting the panna cotta in a big serving bowl and handing out spoons for everyone to take their bites.
- Refrigerate the panna cotta for atleast 3-4 hours for it to firm up and set completely. Overnight refrigeration is ideal, because it also allows the flavors to develop nicely.
- To make the dessert look extra fancy without a lot of effort, you can just pour the panna cotta mixture into glasses that are held in a slightly slanted position. Allow the panna cotta to set that way before you straighten the glasses and pour in the honey jelly mixture.
